Dr. Daut Daman
presented a seminar about "ABET ACCREDITATION OF COMPUTING CURRICULUM"
at Faculty of Computing and Information Technology in Rabigh on Monday
30/1/2012 at 12:00 noon. The Vice Dean and faculty members attended the
seminar. The following is the brief of the seminar:
Accreditation is a
process by which educational programs or institutions are reviewed to
determine if they meet certain standards of quality. Accredited status
is not permanent; it has to be renewed through periodic review. Academic
accreditation typically involves an external quality review by a team
of professional experts from academia or industry who volunteer to
contribute their professional knowledge and experience to quality
assurance and improvements for education. ABET is a United States
academic accreditation body which is a voluntary and decentralized; it
is carried out by many non-governmental, non-profit organizations. By
having accreditation recognition, it is proof that a collegiate program
has met certain standards necessary to produce graduates who are ready
to enter their professions. Students who graduate from accredited
programs have access to enhanced opportunities in areas such as
employment, mobility, and providing a positive impact on society.
Accreditation is an assurance that the professionals that serve us have a
solid educational foundation and are capable of leading the way in
innovation, emerging technologies, and in anticipating the welfare and
safety needs of the public.
